It wasn’t the postcard-perfect shoreline. It was a sandy path, a little uneven, surrounded by grasses and rope fencing… the kind of place many would overlook.
But Madalyn? She didn’t hesitate.
She stepped right into it with this effortless confidence and openness that photographers dream about. No complaints, no second-guessing—just trust. And that right there is where the magic started.
Because here’s the truth:
It’s never just about the location. It’s about the energy brought into it.
And she brought everything.

Now let’s talk about that backlight… because whew.
The sun sat behind her like it knew it had a job to do. It wrapped around her hair, kissed the edges of her dress, and created this soft, glowing halo that felt almost cinematic.
Every movement she made every turn, every step, every little shift caught that light in a new way. The wind picked up just enough to give life to the dress, and suddenly this “ordinary” beach path turned into something straight out of a dream.
And when we leaned into black and white?
Completely different mood… same level of breathtaking.
Timeless. Emotional. Strong.

She Made It Beautiful! That’s the part I keep coming back to.
Madalyn didn’t need a perfect backdrop.
She became the beauty in the scene.
Her energy, her trust, her willingness to just go for it it elevated everything. As a photographer, those are the moments you live for. When your subject doesn’t just show up… they bring the vision to life in a way that surprises even you.

A Little Reminder (For All of Us)This session was such a beautiful reminder of something I truly believe:
You don’t need perfect conditions to create something incredible.
You need the right mindset, the right energy… and a little bit of light.
And when all of that comes together?
You get magic just like this.

If you’ve been waiting for the “perfect” time or place… this is your sign to stop waiting. Let’s take what you have and create an absolutely beautiful senior session together. Whether it’s your first time working with a professional photographer or you’re just curious about what to expect, this guide has you covered.
Here’s what you need to know to nail your senior session from start to finish:

Before the Session: Prep Like a Pro

Know Your Yearbook Deadlines
If your school has a yearbook, find out when they need your photo. Knowing the deadline will help you plan ahead and avoid a last-minute scramble.

Pick the Perfect Location
Where do you feel most like yourself? Whether it’s a park, downtown, or your favorite hangout spot, the location should fit your personality and the story you want your photos to tell.

Book Early
Senior photographers fill up fast! Secure your spot a few months ahead of time to make sure you don’t miss out.

Choose Your Outfit
Your outfit should match the vibe of your location and showcase your personality. Keep it simple—your photos should be about you, not just your outfit. (P.S. Make sure it’s clean, pet-fur-free, and wrinkle-free!)

Hair and Makeup? Done and Done!
Whether you’re going glam or keeping it natural, plan your hair and makeup in advance. At Studio 21, we’ve got a pro HMU team ready to make you look your best. Share your vision with us early so we can bring it to life.

During the Session: It’s Your Time to Shine

Set Aside Enough Time
Most sessions take 1-2 hours, but give yourself 2-4 hours total to include prep time and outfit changes.

Bring Your Wardrobe
Pack your outfits on hangers to keep them looking sharp, and don’t forget to double-check for wrinkles or stray lint.

Relax and Enjoy
Meet your photographer at your chosen location, and let the fun begin! Feeling a little nervous? Don’t worry—we’ll make sure you feel at ease and capture the real you.

Switch It Up
Bring an extra outfit or two for variety. Some looks just pop in certain settings, so having options is always a win.

Bring a Buddy (or Two)
If having a friend or family member along helps you relax, bring them! Just keep the entourage small—they’re there to cheer you on, not steal the spotlight.

Sign the Model Release
Before you leave, you’ll sign a form allowing your photographer to use your amazing photos in their portfolio (because, trust me, you’re going to look THAT good).

After the Session: The Grand Reveal

Your Ordering Session
Once your images are ready, your photographer will invite you to a viewing session where you can order wall art, albums, and other custom goodies.

The Waiting Game
Great things take time! It usually takes 2-3 weeks to complete your images and products. Trust us, it’s worth the wait.

Pick Up and Show Off
When your stunning portraits are ready, swing by the studio to pick them up—and prepare for all the compliments!

Still have questions? If you’ve ever been too embarrassed to share your headshots, you’re not alone. The good news? You don’t have to settle for photos that don’t feel like you.

Here’s why headshots sometimes go sideways—and why it’s totally worth giving them another shot.

1. The Angle is Awful We all know the struggle of finding the “magic angle” with a cellphone. Or worse, the photographer was in a rush, and the photos ended up feeling as flat as a pancake. Sure, mini sessions are quick and budget-friendly, but if the photographer isn’t on their A-game, the results can leave you less than thrilled.

2. It’s All About Connection A great headshot starts with understanding the person in front of the camera. If the photographer didn’t take the time to get to know you or ask about your needs, it’s no wonder the photos feel off. Your headshot should reflect you—your personality, professionalism, and unique vibe.

3. Lack of Guidance Not everyone is a pro at posing—and that’s okay! But if the photographer didn’t explain how to stand, what to do with your hands, or how to relax, the session probably felt awkward. And awkward feelings often lead to awkward photos.

Ready for a Do-Over? If you’re ready to ditch those cringe-worthy selfies or upgrade your headshots, I’ve got you covered. At Studio 21, we make the process fun, relaxed, and all about YOU. You’ll leave with photos that you’re proud to share, whether it’s for LinkedIn, your website, or just because.

Want to see what we can do? Let’s take a trip down memory lane—senior portraits sure have come a long way since your high school days. Back then, it was all about awkward poses and stiff smiles in a stuffy studio. Not anymore! These days, senior portraits are brimming with creativity and individuality, making them the perfect way for your child to shine. But let’s face it, with so many options, planning the perfect senior session can feel overwhelming. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with these simple tips to make the experience smooth, fun, and unforgettable for everyone involved!

Tip #1: Know the Yearbook Deadline
Yearbook deadlines sneak up faster than a Monday morning! Jot it down and use it as motivation to schedule your senior’s session early. Most sessions kick off with that classic yearbook portrait, followed by creative shots that show off your child’s unique personality. Since it usually takes a couple of weeks to get the final images, planning ahead ensures no stressful, last-minute rushes.

Tip #2: Sync Up with Your Senior’s Schedule
Senior year = total chaos. Between classes, extracurriculars, and social events, their calendar is probably bursting. Sit down together and find a session time that works for both of you. Early morning or late afternoon (hello, golden hour!) offers the most flattering lighting, but a talented photographer can make magic at any time of day—just try to avoid midday’s harsh sunlight.

Tip #3: Compromise is Key
Sure, you might have some dreamy ideas about what these photos should look like, but remember—it’s all about your senior! Let them have a say in their outfits, locations, and poses. Most sessions include multiple outfit changes, so there’s plenty of room for a happy middle ground. Trust us, when they feel confident and comfortable, the photos will be stunning.

Tip #4: Encourage Their Input
Want to make your senior’s session extra meaningful? Get them talking about their passions, dreams, and favorite activities. Whether it’s sports, music, art, or simply their unique style, these little details can guide the shoot and make their photos truly one-of-a-kind. It’s their moment to shine, so let their personality take center stage.

Tip #5: Find the Perfect Photographer—Together!
A great photographer does more than just snap pictures; they capture moments, stories, and emotions. Involve your senior in the search to find a photographer whose style matches their vision. Whether they’re into bold and edgy urban shots or soft and dreamy outdoor vibes, finding the right match will make all the difference.

Senior portraits are more than just photos; they’re a celebration of who your child is and the incredible journey they’re about to embark on. With a little planning and teamwork, you’ll create an experience (and photos!) that both of you will treasure forever. Now go ahead, grab that calendar, and start planning the session of their dreams!

From your favorite photographer,
Melissa M. But let’s be honest—it’s also the season of dry skin nightmares. Bitterly cold weather outside and dry, heated air indoors can leave your skin feeling parched, itchy, and downright cranky.

Don’t worry; we’ve got your back—or should we say, your skin! Let’s talk about some easy and effective ways to keep your skin feeling soft, hydrated, and happy all winter long.

Hydration is Key
The first step to defeating winter dryness is simple: moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! Keep a trusty bottle of body lotion and a nourishing lip balm within arm’s reach at all times. After a shower or bath, when your skin is still damp, slather on some lotion to lock in moisture. Your skin will thank you by being less itchy, flaky, and more comfortable.

Pucker Up with Lip Balm
Nobody likes cracked, bleeding lips—ouch! Protect your pout by applying a rich, hydrating lip balm throughout the day. Coconut oil is the BALM. (see what I did there?!)

Hydrate from the Inside Out
Don’t forget to drink plenty of water. Staying hydrated helps your skin stay supple and glowing. Warm teas and soups can also help you sneak in extra fluids while keeping you toasty.

Skip the Super Hot Showers
We know, nothing feels better than a steaming hot shower on a frosty morning. But those extra-hot showers can strip your skin of its natural oils, leaving it even drier. Opt for warm water instead, and keep your showers short and sweet.

Use a Humidifier
Indoor heating can zap the moisture out of the air, which means it’s also zapping moisture from your skin. Adding a humidifier to your space can help keep the air (and your skin) more hydrated.

Gentle Is the Name of the Game
Swap out harsh soaps and scrubs for gentle, hydrating cleansers. And when you’re drying off, pat your skin with a towel instead of rubbing—your skin will appreciate the extra TLC.

Because Your Skin is Holding You Together… Literally
Your skin is your largest organ and deserves a little extra love, especially in winter. Think about it: it’s literally holding you together! So, take a few seconds each day to give it the care it needs. Trust us, those few moments of self-care will make a world of difference.

Let’s Recap

Moisturize often (especially after bathing).

Use lip balm religiously.

Drink water like it’s your winter superpower.

Avoid super hot showers.

Use a humidifier to combat dry indoor air.

Be gentle with your skin.

This winter, don’t just survive—thrive! With these tips, you’ll keep your skin feeling smooth, hydrated, and happy no matter how chilly it gets. After all, taking care of your skin is one small way to love yourself a little more every day. Stay cozy and glowing!

From your favorite photographer,
Melissa M. Yes, those fabulous snapshots that make your yearbook shine and your social media sparkle. But senior photos are so much more than just pretty pictures. They’re a heartfelt way to capture a moment in time, filled with meaning and memories that last far beyond senior year.
Here’s why senior photos are about more than just the perfect shot—and why November is the ideal time to celebrate them.

Reflecting on GrowthSenior year isn’t just another chapter in your high school journey—it’s the grand finale! It’s the epic bridge between childhood and adulthood, complete with hard-earned achievements, personal growth, and maybe a few cringeworthy but lovable moments along the way.
Every pose, every smile, every "look at me, I survived senior year!" photo tells a story. It’s the story of late-night study sessions, buzzer-beater victories, unforgettable friendships, and dreams that are just starting to take shape. Capturing these moments in photos is like hitting the pause button on life to say, “Wow, look how far I’ve come!”

A Gift for Loved OnesLet’s be real—senior photos aren’t just for you. They’re also a little gift to the people who’ve been cheering you on (and maybe sneaking embarrassing photos of you since you were born). For parents, grandparents, and family members, these portraits are pure gold—a keepsake of who you are right now, in this milestone moment.
And with the holiday season right around the corner, senior photos make the perfect gift. Imagine the smiles when Grandma unwraps a gorgeous framed photo of her favorite grandkid, or when your parents get a custom album they can show off to everyone (and we mean everyone). It’s thoughtful, personal, and oh-so-timely for the season of giving.

Creating a LegacySenior photos are more than just pictures—they’re a time capsule. Years from now, when you’re looking back at your high school days, these images will bring it all flooding back. Your style, your personality, your hopes and dreams—all beautifully captured for future you to reminisce over.
And it doesn’t stop there. These photos become part of your family’s story, a legacy to share with future generations. So, when your future kids roll their eyes at your “vintage” fashion, you can proudly say, “This was iconic back in the day!”

Tips for a Memorable SessionNovember’s crisp air and cozy vibes make it the perfect backdrop for senior photos. Want to make your session unforgettable? Here are a few tips:

Add Some Fall Flair: Think cozy scarves, colorful leaves, and golden-hour lighting for that ultimate autumn aesthetic.

Show Off Your Passions: Love playing guitar? Obsessed with your cheer uniform? Bring props that highlight your hobbies and personality.

Pick a Special Spot: Whether it’s your go-to park, your school, or even a snuggly indoor studio, choose a location that feels like home.

Gratitude in ActionYour senior session is also the perfect time to shout out the MVPs in your life. Dedicate a photo to the people who’ve had your back, whether it’s a parent, a coach, or your bestie. It’s a small but meaningful way to say, “Thanks for being my rock.”

Let’s Capture Your StoryYour senior year is one for the books, and your photos should reflect everything that makes this time special. Whether you’re aiming for bold and artsy or timeless and classic, I’m here to help bring your vision to life.
Let’s create images that celebrate who you are, honor your journey, and make your loved ones smile every time they see them. First off, congrats on this milestone! Second, you might be wondering: What the heck do I do with my hands? Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered.

Here are five tips to help you strike a pose without breaking a sweat—and yes, looking cool is part of the deal.

1. Show Off Your Best Features What’s your best feature? (No need to be modest; we all have one!) Maybe it’s your sharp jawline, broad shoulders, or those biceps you’ve been working on. Whatever it is, let’s make it the star of the show. The trick? Keep your best features closest to the camera. Bonus points if you tell your photographer in advance—they’ll make sure to work some photo magic.
2. Keep It Chill Posing doesn’t have to feel like you’re auditioning for a mannequin gig. Natural is always better! Sit, lean, or stand in ways that feel like you. Whether you’re casually leaning on a wall or relaxing on one knee, the key is to look like you’re not trying too hard—because you don’t need to.
3. Hands? No Problem! Ah, the age-old question: What do I do with my hands? The answer? Let them do their thing. They’ll naturally find their way into your pockets, crossed over your chest, or just hanging by your sides. If they feel awkward at first, trust me—they’ll loosen up as you get into the groove.
4. Move It, Move It You’re not a statue (and thank goodness for that). A little movement goes a long way in creating dynamic, authentic photos. You don’t have to break into a dance routine (unless that’s your vibe); small moves like tilting your head or shifting your weight will do the trick. If you’re feeling stiff, just let your photographer know—they’re pros at helping you loosen up.
5. Have Fun (Seriously!) This is your moment, so own it! The best photos happen when you’re relaxed and having fun. Joke around, laugh, and let your personality shine. These photos are all about capturing you. If you want to do some homework beforehand, check out Pinterest or your photographer’s portfolio for pose ideas.
And remember... at Studio 21, boring is absolutely NOT an option! So bring your confidence, your style, and maybe even your favorite playlist—we’ll take care of the rest. Let’s make those senior photos unforgettable!

Warmly,
Melissa M. Not sure which one is right for you? Let’s break it down to help you decide!

What You Need to Know

Traditional Senior Sessions are Longer
Full senior photo sessions typically last at least an hour, giving you plenty of time to relax, experiment, and have fun. Mini sessions, on the other hand, are quick and efficient, lasting no more than 20 minutes. These shorter sessions are often grouped together on the same day for multiple clients.

More Time Means More Poses
If you have a Pinterest board full of posing ideas or you want to try different angles and setups, a full session is the way to go. Mini sessions are fast-paced, so they’re better suited for someone who knows exactly what they want.

Outfit Changes are Limited
Got a few outfits you’re dying to wear? A full session will let you shine in all of them. Mini sessions are perfect for one stellar outfit but don’t allow for wardrobe changes due to time constraints.

Fewer Photos in Mini Sessions
A full senior session typically results in 40–60 beautifully captured and retouched images, giving you a variety to choose from. Mini sessions, while still lovely, offer a smaller gallery of 10–20 images, with minimal editing.

Costs Reflect the Time and Options
Naturally, full sessions cost more because of the extra time and effort they require. Mini sessions are a budget-friendly option for those who want gorgeous photos without all the bells and whistles.

Which One is Right for You?

Choose a Full Senior Session if:

You want multiple outfits, locations, and lots of variety.

You’d love a mix of creative and classic poses.

You want more photos to choose from and premium editing.

Go for a Mini Session if:

You’re looking for a quick, simple experience.

You’re happy with one outfit and one location.

You only need a handful of high-quality images.

The photos of Jackalynn (above) were taken during a full session—can’t you just feel her personality shining through?
So, which session fits your style? The secret to a stress-free, fabulous experience? Preparation! When you’re well-prepped, you’ll feel relaxed and confident, and trust us—that confidence will shine through in your photos.
Here’s your ultimate checklist to make sure everything is picture-perfect:

1. Book Your Hair Appointment Guess what? At Studio 21, your hair appointment is included in your sitting fee. 🎉 Whether you want polished waves or a sleek style, great hair is the crown of every senior photo. Book your appointment for the day before or the day of your shoot, but don’t wait—schedule it at least a week in advance.

2. Book Your Makeup Session Yes, your sitting fee also covers a professional makeup session! Our team will help you achieve a flawless look that enhances your natural beauty. Be sure to schedule this for the day of your session, and book at least a month in advance to secure your spot.

3. Lock in Your Outfits By now, you’ve probably brainstormed a few outfit ideas (and maybe raided your closet). Narrow it down to your favorites a few days before your session. Don’t forget to coordinate accessories and make sure everything is clean, wrinkle-free, and ready to go. Pro tip: Avoid outfits with loud patterns—they can distract from you!

4. Groom Like a Pro It’s all in the details! Schedule time for grooming—whether that’s shaving, trimming, or touching up your nails. The camera captures it all, so a little extra effort will make a big difference.

5. Practice Your Poses Feeling a little unsure about how to pose? That’s normal! Spend some time in front of a mirror practicing a few expressions and angles. Don’t worry, your photographer will guide you every step of the way, but a little practice can help you feel more at ease.

6. Check the Weather The day before your session, take a peek at the forecast. If the weather isn’t cooperating, you might need to adjust the location or bring along extra layers. We’ll make sure your shoot goes off without a hitch, rain or shine!

Bonus Tips for the Big Day

Get a Good Night’s Sleep: A well-rested face is a happy face!

Fuel Up: Eat a solid meal before your session so you have energy for all the smiling and posing.

Arrive Early: Showing up a few minutes ahead of time keeps things stress-free.

Now that you’re prepared, it’s time to get excited! Your senior photo session is more than just a photoshoot—it’s a celebration of your journey and a moment to shine. Feeling a little awkward just thinking about your senior photo session? First of all--relax. You’re not alone, and it’s totally normal to feel a few butterflies. The good news is, there are plenty of ways to shake those nerves and step into your session feeling like a pro.
When you’re relaxed, your photos look more natural, and you’ll actually enjoy the experience! Win-win, right?

Tips to Keep It Cool and Confident

Pick the Right Photographer
Your photographer sets the tone for your whole experience. Choose someone whose style you love and who feels easy to talk to. A photographer like me (wink wink) will make sure you feel comfortable and confident from the moment we start. When you vibe with your photographer, the rest is smooth sailing.

Work Those Eyes
If you’re worried your smile might look forced, start by focusing on your eyes. Yep, your eyes can totally express emotion on their own! Try practicing in the mirror before your session—get familiar with how your face looks when you smile naturally. Pro tip: engage the muscles around your eyes when you smile—it’s the secret sauce to a genuine look.

Get Pumped
Make the day of your session a mini celebration! Blast your favorite tunes, have an epic breakfast, and maybe even throw a little dance party. This is a milestone worth getting excited about. If you’re still feeling jittery, bring along a friend to hype you up (just don’t let them steal the spotlight).

Breathe It Out
Nervous energy tends to make us stiff, and that shows in photos. Take a few deep, belly-filling breaths before and during your session. As you exhale, smile—you’ll feel your face and body relax instantly.

Keep It Moving
Feeling awkward standing still? Don’t! Movement is your friend. Shift your weight, change up your pose, or turn your head slightly. These small actions not only ease nerves but also add a natural vibe to your photos. Your photographer will guide you through this, so don’t hesitate to say if you’re feeling stiff.

Feel Good, Look Great
Confidence is the key to amazing photos. Professional hair and makeup can help you feel your best, but so can wearing something you absolutely love. Avoid trying out a new outfit for the first time—it’s better to stick with something that already makes you feel like a rockstar.

With these simple tips, your senior photo session will feel like a breeze—and your photos will show it. For me, education isn’t just something I check off once a year—it’s a constant journey. From online courses to live conferences, my commitment to learning fuels my creativity, keeps my skills sharp, and ensures I’m delivering the absolute best to my clients.

Learning from the World’s Best
Each year, I attend one of the largest photography conferences in the world. This event is not just a highlight of my year—it’s a transformative experience. Led by the industry's absolute best, I get the opportunity to learn from photographers whose work I’ve admired for years. These are masters of their craft, sharing cutting-edge techniques, insights into the latest trends, and invaluable tips for elevating a photography business. One of my personal inspirations, Vanessa Joy, often teaches at these events, and her classes never fail to leave me brimming with ideas.

Themed Parties and Memorable Moments
If you know me, you know I’m all about embracing a theme—and the conference’s annual themed party is an event I wouldn’t miss for the world! Each year, photographers let loose and have fun, dressing up and celebrating creativity in style. It’s not just a party; it’s a chance to connect with other professionals in a relaxed, vibrant atmosphere. One year, the theme brought out so many incredible costumes, and, true to form, I went all out. Dressing up isn’t just about the fun—it’s about diving headfirst into the experience.

Mistaken Identity: The Vanessa Joy Connection
Speaking of Vanessa Joy, there’s a funny story I have to share. Every year, without fail, I get mistaken for her at the conference. It happens so often that one year, we decided to have our photo taken together to embrace the resemblance. The side-by-side comparison was such a hit! While I admire her work immensely, I’m always humbled (and amused) by the mix-ups. It’s a lighthearted reminder of how small and connected the photography world can feel.

Online Courses: The Everyday Education
While the annual conference is a big part of my continuing education, the learning doesn’t stop there. Throughout the year, I’m enrolled in online courses, constantly expanding my skill set. From mastering new editing techniques to exploring innovative lighting setups, these courses allow me to stay at the forefront of the industry. They also keep me inspired, providing a steady stream of ideas that I bring into my sessions at Studio 21.

Networking and Inspiration
Beyond the learning, these educational opportunities are about connection. The photography community is filled with passionate, talented professionals who inspire and challenge me to grow. Whether it’s exchanging ideas with a peer, learning from a mentor, or receiving guidance from my business coaches, these connections make me a better photographer and entrepreneur.

Always Growing for You
At the heart of all this learning is my commitment to you, my clients. By investing in my growth, I’m ensuring that I can continue to offer innovative, breathtaking photography that tells your story in the most creative and authentic way possible. Whether you’re just starting your search or feeling like Goldilocks trying to find the right fit, these tips will help you lock in a photographer who checks all the boxes.

1. Match Their Style to Your Vision Do you want senior photos that are bold and dramatic, or do you picture yourself in bright, playful images? Knowing your style is step one; finding a photographer who consistently delivers that style is step two.
Take a deep dive into their portfolio. Do their photos scream consistency, or is it a mix of random styles? If you’re looking for gorgeous, personality-packed senior photos, Melissa M. Harden at Studio 21 has you covered. We’ve mastered the balance between vibrant and timeless—because boring isn’t in our vocabulary.

2. Experience Matters A good camera doesn’t make a great photographer. Senior sessions are unique, and experience with them makes all the difference. Look for someone who knows how to make you feel like the star of the show.
Bonus points if they have rave reviews or shiny industry awards (like, ahem, the Best Photographer award—two years running). Testimonials are a great way to see what working with them will feel like and whether their clients leave smiling.

3. Budget Wisely Set your budget before you start shopping. This keeps you focused and saves you from falling for a photographer who’s way out of your price range—or worse, someone whose low prices mean inexperience.
Cheaper isn’t always better. Pros charge more because they bring expertise, high-quality services, and luxurious products to the table. It’s worth the investment to get senior photos you’ll cherish forever.

Pro Tip: Don’t Wait to Book Once you find a photographer you love, snag your spot! Senior photographers fill up fast, so it’s smart to secure your session early. And if your top choice isn’t available, have a backup plan ready.
Your senior year is a once-in-a-lifetime moment—make sure your photos reflect it. Ready to start planning? As we say goodbye to the holiday hustle and hello to fresh beginnings, it’s time to start thinking about something super exciting: senior photos! If you’re wondering when the perfect time is to schedule your session, let me sprinkle a little sunshine on your decision—springtime!

Why Spring is Simply Perfect
Spring senior photo sessions are where it’s at, and here’s why: photographers’ calendars aren’t bursting at the seams just yet. Fall may be the reigning champ for family photos, but spring gives you first dibs on flexible scheduling. Plus, everything is fresh and vibrant: the blooming flowers, lush greenery, and warm golden light create a magical backdrop.

But wait, there’s more! Booking your senior session in the spring gives you the freedom to plan follow-up seasonal sessions, which brings me to our favorite Studio 21 perk—Encore Sessions!

What Are Encore Sessions?
Imagine this: you book your spring senior photo session, and it’s everything you’ve dreamed of. But then, later in the year, the leaves turn fiery red, or the first snowfall dusts the ground, and you think, Wouldn’t it be amazing to have photos in this season, too? That’s where our Encore Sessions come in!

Encore Sessions are short and sweet 30-minute photo sessions offered to our senior clients at a discounted rate. It’s the perfect way to capture another side of your personality and style in a whole new season. Bonus: They’re so much fun! Whether you want to twirl in autumn leaves, show off your favorite winter coat, or go barefoot in a summer sunset, Encore Sessions let you do it all.

The Album Bonus
Here’s a little cherry on top: While you’re planning your album order (and trust me, our albums are stunning), we can hold off on finalizing it until after your Encore Session. That way, your album will include all your favorite moments from both sessions. How’s that for capturing your senior year in style?

Let’s Make It Happen!
Spring is just around the corner, and we’d love to celebrate your senior year with you. At Studio 21, we specialize in making your experience fun, relaxed, and uniquely you. So, what are you waiting for? It's an honor to be entrusted with capturing their precious moments and milestones. Shiloh, a remarkable individual with immense talent, has been a regular visitor to my studio for the past ten years. From her senior photoshoot in 2020 to her recent session for professional headshots, Shiloh's unwavering loyalty is a testament to the connection we've forged and the magic we've created together.

A Magical Journey Begins: In 2020, Shiloh walked through the doors of my studio as a high school senior, full of dreams and aspirations. Collaborating closely, we crafted a unique photoshoot that would encapsulate her youthful spirit and the enchantment she envisioned. Together, we ventured into a serene wooded area, armed with a fog machine to create an ethereal atmosphere. The resulting photographs portrayed Shiloh's radiant beauty amidst a mystical backdrop, forever capturing a moment frozen in time.

The Blossoming of a Multifaceted Talent: Fast forward to the present, and Shiloh has transformed into an accomplished author and businesswoman. She returned to my studio, seeking professional headshots that would reflect her growth and multifaceted identity. Seeing Shiloh's progression over the years filled me with immense joy and pride. It was an incredible privilege to witness her evolution and contribute to her visual narrative once again.

From Matching Outfits to Personal Journeys: Reflecting on Shiloh's journey, it's worth mentioning the charming tradition we had when she was younger. Alongside her sister, I used to photograph them in matching outfits, capturing their bond and shared experiences. Those sessions served as a delightful foundation for the years to come, building a sense of familiarity and trust between Shiloh and myself. It is heartwarming to see how we have evolved from those playful moments to capturing Shiloh's individuality and professional accomplishments.

The Power of Client Loyalty: Shiloh's decision to return to my studio for her headshots reaffirms the significance of building strong relationships with clients. It speaks volumes about the trust she has in my ability to capture her essence, even as her life and career have evolved. As a photographer, there is nothing more gratifying than seeing clients like Shiloh return, allowing me to continue playing a part in their visual storytelling.

Creating Lasting Memories: Beyond the technicalities of capturing exceptional photographs, it's the personal connection that truly elevates the experience. Over the course of a decade, Shiloh and I have developed a bond based on mutual understanding and shared creativity. If you plan to have a lot of greenery in the background of your photos, wearing too much red will quickly turn your senior session into a Christmas shoot.
2. A sports uniform without the gear. If you’re going to make sports the highlight of your senior photos, don’t forget to bring all your gear with you. A sports uniform looks great, but if you really want to tell a story about your senior year, bring all essential gear along with you.
3. A brand-new outfit. It’s perfectly fine to purchase a new outfit for your senior photoshoot, but don’t try that outfit on for the first time on the day. You never know when something might fit you poorly or if you’ll realize you don’t feel comfortable walking around in a particular clothing item.
4. Spaghetti straps. There is nothing wrong with spaghetti straps, but they can make your shoulders look much wider than they really are. If you do want to show some shoulder, rather go with a strapless dress or top.
5. Glasses with lenses. If you plan to wear glasses for your senior photos, try and remove the lenses for your shoot. This way, you can avoid any unnecessary glare and you get to show off your beautiful eyes. If this is not an option, opt for progressive lenses.
6. Graphic tees. T-shirts that have trendy graphics can look good in photos, but will they still be relevant in a few years. Ideally, you want your senior photos to be timeless so choose any graphic tees carefully.
7. Uncomfortable outfits. Everyone has one outfit that they love but that makes them feel slightly uncomfortable. This is not the right outfit to wear for your senior photo session. If you can’t bend and move comfortably, this will show in your images. 8. The wrong underwear. Even the wrong underwear can make a difference to your senior photos. Make sure the color of your underwear doesn’t show through your clothing and that straps aren’t visible. For guys, make sure your boxers or briefs don’t appear above your pants.

With these tips in mind, there’s no doubt you’ll show up to your senior photo session looking and feeling good.

Just remember, at Studio 21...

Senior Photo Session 101: The Prep Checklist Your Need

https://www.melissamharden.com/blog/senior-photo-session-101-the-prep-checklist-your-need

https://www.melissamharden.com/blog/senior-photo-session-101-the-prep-checklist-your-need#comments

Uncategorized

Your senior photo session is right around the corner and if you want to have the best possible experience, you need to prepare. Know that your photographer is there to guide you, but it doesn’t hurt to practice a few expressions and poses a few days before your senior shoot.
6. Check the weather. The day before your senior session, make a point of checking the weather. Which option is right for you though? There are a few differences between traditional and mini photo sessions that you should consider as you plan your senior shoot.

Here is what you should be aware of:
- Traditional senior sessions are longer. While a traditional senior photo session lasts at least an hour, a mini session doesn’t take longer than 20 minutes. Photographers generally schedule several mini sessions in one day because they’re quick and simple.
- You can try more poses during a traditional session. If you have a lot of posing ideas, a mini session might not be for you. Mini senior photo sessions give you less time to experiment, so you need to have a specific idea of what you want.
- Outfit changes are reduced. Have more than one outfit in mind for your senior session? You will need to schedule a traditional photo session. With a mini senior session, there won’t be time for outfit changes.
- You receive fewer photos after a mini session. After a traditional senior photo session, you can expect to receive 40 – 60 photos, while a mini session only results in 10 – 20 images. In terms of retouching, mini sessions only offer minimal editing. - The costs are different. As you can imagine, a traditional senior photo session will cost more because it requires more of your photographer’s time. If you have a tight budget, a mini senior session might be a better option.

So, which option is right for you? If you want to make the most of your senior session by incorporating different outfits, locations, and poses, a full senior session is an ideal choice. If you’re happy with a handful of photos shot at your favorite location wearing one great outfit, a mini session is perfect.

The photos of Ashlee, above, were taken during a full session.

Which option will you choose?

We hope to hear from you soon!

Just remember, at Studio 21...

How to Feel Less Awkward During Your Senior Photo Session

https://www.melissamharden.com/blog/how-to-feel-less-awkward-during-your-senior-photo-session

https://www.melissamharden.com/blog/how-to-feel-less-awkward-during-your-senior-photo-session#comments

Uncategorized

If you haven’t been in front of a professional camera before, you might be feeling a little nervous and awkward in the lead-up to your senior photo session. Along with looking at a photographer’s style, make sure you feel comfortable in their presence too. When your photographer is easy to talk to and makes you feel at ease, you will show up to your session feeling more relaxed too.
     - Use your eyes. If you feel that your smile is going to make you look awkward in photos, start by using your eyes to express emotion. It’s also recommended that you practice your smile and expressions in the mirror prior to your session. When smiling, focus on contracting the muscles in your face to make your smile look more natural.
     - Get excited. On the day of your senior session, find ways to get excited. Make a fun breakfast, turn on your favorite music, and dance around. This is a milestone photo session and one that you should enjoy – it will never come around again. If you are feeling really nervous, get your friends to come along with you.
     - Just breathe. This is a simple but effective tip. When we get nervous, we can often forget to breathe. Before you head out for your session, take some deep belly breaths. As you release each breath, smile, and notice how it changes your face – it will instantly relax you.
     - Move. If you start feeling nervous as your session begins, move around. You don’t need to stick to one pose with a staged smile. Movement results in relaxation. Keep in mind that your photographer is also there to guide you, so let them know you’re feeling nervous.
    - Look and feel good. When you look good, you feel good, which translates into confidence. If possible, get a professional to assist you with your hair and makeup. It’s also important to wear something you feel comfortable in. Your senior photo session is not the right time to try a new outfit for the first time.

By sticking to these simple tips, you can look forward to senior photos that look natural and that you’ll want to share and display.

We hope to hear from you soon!

Just remember, at Studio 21...

Are You Saying Enough In Your Bio?

https://www.melissamharden.com/blog/are-you-saying-enough-in-your-bio

https://www.melissamharden.com/blog/are-you-saying-enough-in-your-bio#comments

Uncategorized

(function(jQuery) {function init() { window.wSlideshow && window.wSlideshow.render({elementID:"574196246409412252",nav:"none",navLocation:"bottom",captionLocation:"bottom",transition:"fade",autoplay:"1",speed:"5",aspectRatio:"16:9",showControls:"true",randomStart:"false",images:[{"url":"2/6/4/8/26480162/v4a0128.jpg","width":"800","height":"533"},{"url":"2/6/4/8/26480162/v4a0125.jpg","width":"800","height":"533"},{"url":"2/6/4/8/26480162/v4a0132.jpg","width":"800","height":"533"}]}) }jQuery(docu [...]

When potential customers or employers come across your online portfolio or profile, do you think your bio is giving them enough information and the right information?

As you start reviewing your bio, keep in mind that you have about 20 seconds to grab the attention of the person viewing it.
