10 Ways to Make Your Senior Session Uniquely You

6/3/2026

One of my favorite things about photographing high school seniors is that no two sessions are ever exactly alike.

Your senior year is a celebration of who you are right now—your interests, your accomplishments, your personality, and the exciting road ahead. The best senior portraits aren't about copying someone else's Pinterest board. They're about creating images that feel authentically you.

Here are 10 ways to make your senior session stand out and tell your unique story.

1. Bring Your Favorite SportWhether you're a football player, cheerleader, dancer, wrestler, golfer, volleyball player, swimmer, or soccer star, your sport has likely been a huge part of your high school experience.

Bring your uniform, letter jacket, equipment, medals, or even your championship trophy. These details help tell the story of the countless hours you've invested in your passion.

2. Include Your Vehicle
Do you have a classic car, lifted truck, Jeep, motorcycle, or your very first car?

Vehicles add personality and create a cinematic feel to your images. Some of my favorite senior portraits have featured everything from vintage Mustangs to muddy farm trucks.
Your vehicle is often a symbol of freedom and independence two things that define senior year.

3. Bring Your Pet
Let's be honest. Sometimes the family dog steals the show.

Whether it's a horse, dog, cat, goat, or even a favorite farm animal, including a beloved pet can make your session more meaningful and personal.
Plus, pets often help seniors relax and show genuine smiles.

4. Show Off Your Hobbies

What do you love doing when you're not at school?

Maybe you:
  • Play guitar
  • Paint
  • Hunt
  • Fish
  • Read
  • Bake
  • Create content for social media
  • Work on cars
  • Ride horses

Your hobbies are part of what makes you unique, and they deserve to be celebrated.

5. Wear Something That Feels Like You

Trends come and go, but confidence never goes out of style.

Choose outfits that make you feel comfortable, confident, and like yourself. Whether that's a flowy dress, boots and jeans, sneakers, business attire, or something trendy, the goal is to showcase your personality.

Don't worry, we'll discuss wardrobe options during your consultation.

6. Highlight Your Future Plans
Are you headed to college? Trade school? Military service? Starting a business?

Bring items that represent your next chapter. College sweatshirts, acceptance letters, tools of your trade, or career-related props can create meaningful images that celebrate what's ahead.

7. Choose Locations That Matter

Some locations simply hold special meaning.

Maybe it's:
  • Your family's farm
  • The football field
  • A favorite park
  • Downtown Mattoon
  • A country road
  • The lake
  • A horse barn

Meaningful locations help tell your story in a way that generic locations never can.

8. Add a Touch of Glamour

Senior year is the perfect excuse to dress up.

Professional hair and makeup, a stunning outfit, and a little confidence can create magazine-worthy portraits that you'll treasure for years.

At Studio 21, many seniors love combining casual looks with something a little more elevated and dramatic.

9. Bring Your Personality

Are you adventurous? Quiet? Funny? Creative? Athletic? Fashion-forward?

The best images happen when you stop trying to be someone else and simply allow yourself to shine.
Some of the most memorable senior sessions involve laughter, dancing, storytelling, and moments that happen naturally.

10. Trust the Process

The most important thing you can bring to your senior session is an open mind.

You don't need modeling experience.

You don't need to know how to pose.

You don't even need to feel photogenic.

That's my job.

I'll guide you every step of the way so that together we create portraits that celebrate who you are and this incredible milestone in your life.
Your Story Deserves More Than Cookie-Cutter Photos

Senior year only happens once.

Your photographs should reflect your personality, your passions, and the journey that brought you here.

Whether you want to include your horse, your truck, your football gear, your favorite dress, or simply your amazing smile, we'll create a session that's completely and unapologetically you.
