Continuous Growth: Why I Never Stop Learning as a Photographer

In the ever-evolving world of photography, staying ahead of the curve means never settling and always striving for improvement. For me, education isn’t just something I check off once a year—it’s a constant journey. From online courses to live conferences, my commitment to learning fuels my creativity, keeps my skills sharp, and ensures I’m delivering the absolute best to my clients.

Learning from the World’s Best
Each year, I attend one of the largest photography conferences in the world. This event is not just a highlight of my year—it’s a transformative experience. Led by the industry's absolute best, I get the opportunity to learn from photographers whose work I’ve admired for years. These are masters of their craft, sharing cutting-edge techniques, insights into the latest trends, and invaluable tips for elevating a photography business. One of my personal inspirations, Vanessa Joy, often teaches at these events, and her classes never fail to leave me brimming with ideas.

Themed Parties and Memorable Moments
If you know me, you know I’m all about embracing a theme—and the conference’s annual themed party is an event I wouldn’t miss for the world! Each year, photographers let loose and have fun, dressing up and celebrating creativity in style. It’s not just a party; it’s a chance to connect with other professionals in a relaxed, vibrant atmosphere. One year, the theme brought out so many incredible costumes, and, true to form, I went all out. Dressing up isn’t just about the fun—it’s about diving headfirst into the experience.

Mistaken Identity: The Vanessa Joy Connection
Speaking of Vanessa Joy, there’s a funny story I have to share. Every year, without fail, I get mistaken for her at the conference. It happens so often that one year, we decided to have our photo taken together to embrace the resemblance. The side-by-side comparison was such a hit! While I admire her work immensely, I’m always humbled (and amused) by the mix-ups. It’s a lighthearted reminder of how small and connected the photography world can feel.

Online Courses: The Everyday Education
While the annual conference is a big part of my continuing education, the learning doesn’t stop there. Throughout the year, I’m enrolled in online courses, constantly expanding my skill set. From mastering new editing techniques to exploring innovative lighting setups, these courses allow me to stay at the forefront of the industry. They also keep me inspired, providing a steady stream of ideas that I bring into my sessions at Studio 21.

Networking and Inspiration
Beyond the learning, these educational opportunities are about connection. The photography community is filled with passionate, talented professionals who inspire and challenge me to grow. Whether it’s exchanging ideas with a peer, learning from a mentor, or receiving guidance from my business coaches, these connections make me a better photographer and entrepreneur.

Always Growing for You
At the heart of all this learning is my commitment to you, my clients. By investing in my growth, I’m ensuring that I can continue to offer innovative, breathtaking photography that tells your story in the most creative and authentic way possible. Whether I’m experimenting with new lighting techniques, applying advanced editing methods, or bringing fresh ideas from a conference, my goal is to make every session unforgettable.

Education is a journey, not a destination—and I’m grateful for every opportunity to grow, connect, and create. Here’s to another year of learning and another year of capturing memories that matter most!
