Senior Session Locations: How We Choose the Perfect Setting

9/1/2026

One of the most exciting parts of planning a senior session is choosing where the photographs will take place.

The location becomes part of your story.

It sets the mood, creates variety, and helps showcase your personality.

But how do we choose the perfect location?

We Start With You

The first question isn't "Where should we go?"

The first question is:
"What do you love?"

Every senior is different.

Some prefer:
  • Country roads
  • Fields and barns
  • Lakes and beaches
  • Downtown architecture
  • Urban textures
  • Parks and nature trails

Others love the controlled environment of the studio.

There's no right or wrong answer.

Meaningful Locations Create Meaningful Images

Some of the most powerful senior portraits happen in places that already matter.
We've photographed seniors at:
  • Family farms
  • Sports fields
  • Horse barns
  • Favorite fishing spots
  • Downtown Mattoon
  • Local parks
  • Family property

These locations help tell a deeper story than a random backdrop ever could.

Studio Sessions Offer Endless Possibilities

Many people are surprised by how much variety we can create inside Studio 21.

Benefits include:
  • No weather concerns
  • Multiple backgrounds
  • Controlled lighting
  • Comfortable environment
  • Easy outfit changes
  • Creative set designs

You don't have to worry about rain, wind, humidity, or extreme temperatures.

Outdoor Sessions Bring Natural Beauty

Outdoor sessions create a completely different feel.

Natural light, open spaces, sunsets, and seasonal colors can add incredible depth and atmosphere.

Some of my favorite outdoor sessions happen during:
  • Spring blooms
  • Summer sunsets
  • Fall colors
  • Snowy winter scenes

Every season offers something unique.

Why Not Both?

Many seniors choose a combination session.

Starting at Studio 21 and ending outdoors gives you the best of both worlds.

The result is a gallery filled with variety, personality, and creativity.

The Perfect Location Reflects Your Personality

The best location isn't necessarily the most popular location.

It's the location that feels like you.

Whether that's a beach-inspired California Dream Session, a rustic farm, a downtown alleyway, or a beautifully lit studio set, our goal is always the same:
To create photographs that tell your story.

Let's Find Your Perfect Location

Every senior session at Studio 21 begins with a complimentary consultation where we discuss your interests, style, and vision.

Together, we'll choose locations that help create a senior gallery as unique as you are.
Because your story deserves the perfect backdrop.
